Radiant barrier insulation reflects up to 97% of radiant heat energy. When used in the attic it can reduce the attic temperature 30 degrees buffering your ducts from the extreme heat & lowering the Delta T (temperature difference to the conditioned area) which will raise the effectivness of your insulation.
A pure aluminum radiant barrier installed in your attic will reflect over 97% of the radiant heat entering your attic and then your home. Your attic door provides two ways for your home to loose valuable energy. First, it is basically a hole in the ceiling allowing air to pass through. Newer homes require the attic door to be sealed, but on older homes the attic staircase usually allows air to easily pass through. This is no different than leaving a window partially open. Secondly, most attic stairs are not insulated. This provides a channel for heat to easily pass through. It is essentially a "bald spot" in your attic floor insulation.
The Seal N Shield® Attic Stair Insulator attaches to the inner framework of the opening of the disappearing stairway. It, in effect, seals off the hole in your ceiling stopping either the super-heated or super-cold air in the attic from invading the living area. Simply unzip the unit and flip the top to the side or rear to climb into the attic. Blocks air infiltration $aving you money!
Reflective Bubblewrap is the solution for a crawlspace as well.
Fiberglass insulation has an open weave that will not work in an open floor (air movement destroys its dead air cells and moisture gets inside of the fiber and contributes to mold and conducts heat!
Reflective bubblewrap is idea for midtown and areas with high ground moisture. It reduces the latent heat load on your A/C unit, along with reducing the possibility of mold and mildew. The bubblewrap is an air barrier meaning it blocks the air infiltration that is the prime culpret in energy loss (and comfort!).
