Cellulose Insulation is one of the greenest building products available today.

It's made from recycled newspaper and takes less energy to make than any other insulating product. It has a boric acid that helps prevent bugs, but is still safe to humans. Fiberglass takes 10 times more energy to produce and has well-documented public health threats.

Cellulose Insulation truely is the "Greenest of the Green!"

* Blown in cellulose insulation is 2-3 times denser than fiberglass insulation. Studies comparing Blown in cellulose insulation Vs fiberglass insulation show that cellulose insulation was 38% tighter and required 26% less energy. A Princeton University study shows, a group of homes with blown in cellulose insulation in the walls had an average of 24.5% reduction of air infiltration compared to fiberglass insulation, with only the walls insulated. A similar study, the Leominster MA Housing Project for the Elderly found that, a building with blown in cellulose insulation compared to a building with R-13 fiberglass batt insulation in the walls and R-38 fiberglass batt insulation in the ceiling, had 40% lower leakage. However, when it comes to air infiltration, sheathing and drywall are better air barriers than any cavity insulation.

Incentives and Tax Credits for installing insulation

Both the Federal Government and local utility companies have provided incentives to better insulate your home. Check with your local utility company about their programs that will allow you to insulate your home and receive even more benefits than “just” savings on your monthly bills. Due to ever changing legislation please follow this link http://www.energystar.gov/ to the Department of Energy to find out what opportunities are currently available.

Cellulose Insulation is THE Greenest !

Cellulose earns “green” points because it requires less energy than fiberglass or foam to manufacture. The process for producing Cellulose Insulation is extremely energy efficient. It takes at least ten times more energy to make fiberglass insulation then cellulose insulation and approximately 20 times more to manufacture foam insulation because it is made mostly from petroleum.h text.

Waste paper decays in landfills and produces greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide in the process. If this waste paper were recycled and converted into Cellulose Insulation, it would save a tremendous amount of energy. No other low cost building insulation can do this. In 2007 about 3,000,000 tons of newspapers went to U.S. landfills. This paper could have been used to produce an additional 200,000,000 bags of Cellulose Insulation. The Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association (CIMA) claims that insulating a 1500 ft^2 house with cellulose will recycle as much newspaper as an individual will consume in 40 years. If all new homes were insulated with cellulose this would remove 3.2 million tons of newsprint from the nation’s waste stream each year.
